The white stucco Modern building was constructed in 1939.  There was an earlier courthouse in Culberson.  The courthouse is at South 2nd<\/sup> Avenue and Custer Street.  United States Highway 2 is five blocks northwest of the location.  The designer is Edwin G. Oness.  Roosevelt County was formed on February 9, 1919 as the 47th<\/sup> county.  The county is named for United States President Theodore Roosevelt.  The county seat is named for Wolf Creek.  Roosevelt County was the birthplace for 1 Montana Governor, Theodore Schwinden. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roosevelt County government consists of a sheriff, an administrator, an attorney, a collector, a coroner, an assessor and a clerk (executive).  It has 3 Commissioners (legislative.)  One District Court Judge serves Roosevelt, Daniels, and Sheridan counties and a court clerk serves Roosevelt County (judicial.) <\/a> The county is in eastern Montana touching the border with North Dakota.  The Missouri River forms its southern border.  Billings, Montana is southwest of the county.  The county center is 36.9 miles Northeast of Wolf Point nearer Poplar.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Sheridan County and North Dakota and Richland, McCone, Valley, and Daniels counties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The area of the county is 2356 square miles.  It is 29 out of 56 in the state.  It ranks 20 out of 56 in population in the state.  It has a density of 4.6 persons per square mile making it 20 out of 56 in the state.  <\/a>Roosevelt County has 42.7% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 2 travels east to west through the county from North Dakota to Valley County.  The county looks like a cleaver facing south.  Wolf Point is in the southwest corner of the county on the Missouri River.  Wolf Point is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 24.4% of the county population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
