The Second Empire style red brick courthouse was built in 1901.  It was remodeled in 1915, 1991, and 2008.  It is on Main Street at Brazell Street.  United States Highway 280 is Brazell Street.  James Wingfield Golucke & Company are the architects.  An Administration Center was built in 1956 and a Judicial Center was added in 2002.  The courthouse features columns and a porch.  Tattnall County was established on December 5, 1801 from Montgomery County as the 26^th county.  Zacharia Cox’s house served as county seat until 1832 when Reidsville took over.  The county is named for Governor Josiah Tattnall.  Florida Territorial Governor Robert E. Reid is the source name for the county seat.  The county center is 2.8 miles Southeast of Reidsville. 

Tattnall County government consists of a manager, a sheriff, an administrator, a coroner, a clerk, and a tax commissioner (executive).  It has 6 Commissioners (legislative.)  Twenty-one Superior Court Judges serve Tattnall, Appling, Bacon, Brantley, Bryan, Bulloch, Camden, Charlton, Chatham, Coffee, Effingham, Evans, Glynn, Jeff Davis, Jenkins, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Pierce, Screven, Ware, and Wayne counties and a State Judge and Five County Judges, court clerk, and county attorney serve Tattnall County (judicial.) Tattnall County is located in southeast Georgia to the west of Savannah, Georgia.  The Altamaha River is its southern border.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Candler, Evans, Liberty, Long, Wayne, Appling, and Toombs counties. 

The area of the county is 484 square miles.  It is 30 out of 159 counties in the state.  It ranks 79 out of 159 in population in the state.  It has a density of 50.2 persons per square mile making it 92 out of 159 in the state.  Tattnall County has 36.0% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highways 25/301 cross the eastern part of the county from north to south, Evans County to Long County.  The county looks like a capital letter L tilted up.  Reidsville is in the western quarter of the county.  Reidsville is the county seat and Glennville is the largest city.  Reidsville is 10.3% of the county population and Glennville is 21.7% of the county population.
