The granite capitol was originally completed in 1819 using the designs of Stuart James Park. It is located on Capitol Street at State Street. Interstate Highway 93 is 3 blocks east of the capitol. The Capitol is designed in Greek Revival style. The only supporting building is the Supreme Court Building in Concord. The state was officially created as the 9th state on June 21, 1788 from Native American lands and Province of New Hampshire. Concord has been the capital since 1808. The state’s name comes from the English county of Hampshire. Concord is named for the agreement between disputing towns. Manchester is named for Manchester, England. Mount Washington in Coos County is the highest point and the lowest point is sea level at the Atlantic Ocean.
New Hampshire government, in the Executive, consists of a Governor, a five-person Executive Council, Attorney General, Secretary of State, and Treasurer. There are 24 Senators and 400 Representatives in the Legislature. Five Supreme Court Justices serve New Hampshire in the Judicial. New Hampshire is located in the northeastern part of the United States on the border with Canada. The geographic center is in Belknap County 3 miles east of Ashland. The state is surrounded clockwise by Canada, Maine, the Atlantic Ocean, Massachusetts, and Vermont.
The area is 9349 square miles. It is 46th largest state in the country. It is the 41st most populated state in the country. It has a density of 147.3 persons per square mile making it 19th in the country. Its major rivers are the Androscoggin, the Saco, the Piscataqua, the Merrimack, and the Connecticut. Concord is southern third of the state. Manchester is located in the southern quarter of the state.
