The limestone capitol was originally completed in 1932 using the designs of Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue.  It is located on K Street at Goodhue Boulevard.  Interstate Highway 180 is 9 blocks northwest of the capitol.  The Capitol is designed in Art Deco style.  The Supreme Court and Court of Appeals are located in the capitol building in Lincoln.  The state was officially created as the 37th state on March 1, 1867 from Native American lands, the Louisiana Purchase and the Nebraska Territory.  Omaha was the capital until 1867 was it was moved to Lincoln.  The state’s name comes from the Native American for “flat water” for the Platte River.  Lincoln is named for President Abraham Lincoln.  Omaha is named for the Native American tribe which means “dwellers on the bluff.”  Panorama Point in Kimball County is the highest point and the lowest point is the Missouri River at the Kansas border. 

Nebraska government, in the Executive, consists of a Governor, a Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Auditor, and Treasurer.  There are 49 Senators in the Legislature, the only single house state.  Seven Supreme Court Justices and Six Court of Appeals Judges serve Nebraska in the Judicial.  Nebraska is located in the central part of the United States.  The geographic center is in Custer County 12 miles northwest of Broken Bow.  The state is surrounded clockwise by South Dakota, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming. 

The area is 77348 square miles.  It is 16th largest state in the country.  It is the 37th most populated state in the country.  It has a density of 25.4 persons per square mile making it 43rd in the country.  Its major rivers are the Missouri, the Platte, the Niobrara, the North Platte, the South Platte, the Republican, and the Loup.  Lincoln is southeastern quarter of the state.  Omaha is located in the eastern quarter of the state on the border with Iowa.
