A Federalist style building is the 1914 masonry courthouse in Springview.  The county was founded on November 4, 1884 from parts of Brown County and Native American Territory as the 73rd county.  Springview has always been the county seat.  The courthouse is on Turbine and Ash streets.  United States Highway 183 is one block west in the small community.  O. E. Shipley provided the white brick building designs.  Veteran memorials are on the grounds.  Keya Paha County is named for Keya Paha River which is Native American for “turtle hill.”  The county seat is a descriptive term for a local spring. 

Keya Paha County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  Two District Court Judges and Three County Court Judges serve Keya Paha, Blaine, Boyd, Brown, Cherry, Custer, Garfield, Greeley, Holt, Howard, Loup, Rock, Sherman, Valley and Wheeler counties.  The county is on the northern border with South Dakota.  Grand Island, Nebraska is southeast and Scottsbluff, Nebraska is southwest of the county.  The county center is 7.4 miles East-Northeast of Springview.  The county is surrounded clockwise by South Dakota and Boyd, Holt, Rock, Brown, and Cherry counties. 

The area of the county is 773 square miles.  It is 28 out of 93 in the state.  It ranks 84 out of 93 in population in the state.  It has a density of 1.0 persons per square mile making it 84 out of 93 in the state.  Keya Paha County has 31.9% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 183 travels north to south through the county from South Dakota to Brown County.  The county looks like a saw blade.  Springview is in the southern half of the county.  Springview is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 30.6% of the county population.  The county is pronounced KEE-YA PA-HA.
