The tan brick Classical Revival facility was built in 1910.  It is located on Main Street at 6th Street.  Main Street is United States Highway 385 in the town.  J. P. Eisentraut is the building designer.  A Courthouse Annex was added in 2000.  Morrill County was organized on November 3, 1908 from Cheyenne County as the 91st county with Bridgeport as the only county seat.  It is named for Land Company officer Charles Henry Morrill.  The county seat is a geographical term for a bridge over the North Platte River. 

Morrill County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  Four District Court Judges and Five County Court Judges serve Morrill, Banner, Box Butte, Cheyenne, Dawes, Deuel, Garden, Grant, Kimball, Scotts Bluff, Sheridan and Sioux counties.  Morrill County is in the western panhandle of the state.  Scottsbluff, Nebraska is directly west and Rapid City, South Dakota is north of the county.  The North Platte River flows through the county.  The county center is 7.1 miles East of Bridgeport.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Box Butte, Sheridan, Garden, Cheyenne, Banner, and Scotts Bluff counties. 

The area of the county is 1424 square miles.  It is 7 out of 93 in the state.  It ranks 58 out of 93 in population in the state.  It has a density of 3.2 persons per square mile making it 72 out of 93 in the state.  Morrill County has 59.1% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 26 crosses the county southeast to west from Garden County to Scotts Bluff County.  United States Highway 385 goes north to south from Box Butte County to Cheyenne County.  The county is an overall rectangle.  Bridgeport is in the southwest quarter of the county.  Bridgeport is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 32.1% of the county population.
