A Modern tan brick facility was built in 1976. The courthouse is on Ivy Street between 8th and 9th streets. Nebraska State Highway 57 Ivy Street. Everett J. Simpson was the courthouse designer. Veteran memorials are in a park across from the courthouse. The earlier version dated from 1883. The county was founded on January 26, 1856 from Burt County as the 25th county. Stanton has always been the county seat. The county and county seat are named for United States Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton.

Two District Court Judges and Three County Court Judges serve Stanton, Antelope, Cuming, Knox, Madison, Pierce, and Wayne counties (judicial.) The county is in the northeast part of the state. Omaha, Nebraska is southeast and Sioux City, Iowa is northeast of the county. The county is 3 miles Southeast of Stanton. The county is surrounded clockwise by Wayne, Cuming, Colfax, Platte, Madison, and Pierce counties.

It has a density of 13.5 persons per square mile making it 34 out of 93 in the state. Stanton County has 30.2% of its population in its incorporated areas. United States Highway 275 crosses the county east to west from Cuming County to Madison County. Stanton County is a rectangle. The City of Stanton is located slightly north of center in the county. Stanton is the county seat and the largest city. It is 26.1% of the county population. This county is in the Norfolk Micropolitan Statistical Area.
