The tan brick Modern building was constructed in 1961.  It is located on Fir Street at Marshall Street.  Nebraska State Highway 61 is Fir Street through the town.  Thomas, Benjamin, and Clayton were the architects of the building.  The structure was remodeled in 1967.  A 1914 wooden facility was there previously also in Arthur, the only county seat.  The county was established on January 1, 1913 from Native American Territory as the 93rd and last county.  The county and county seat are named for United States President Chester A. Arthur. 

Arthur County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  Three District Court Judges and Five County Court Judges serve Arthur, Chase, Dawson, Dundy, Frontier, Furnas, Gosper, Hayes, Hitchcock, Hooker, Keith, Lincoln, Logan, McPherson, Perkins, Red Willow and Thomas counties.  The western section of Nebraska is the location of the county.  Scottsbluff, Nebraska is west and Grand Island, Nebraska is southeast of the county.  The county center is 4.9 miles East of Arthur.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Grant, Hooker, McPherson, Keith, and Garden counties. 

The area of the county is 715 square miles.  It is 36 out of 93 in the state.  It ranks 91 out of 93 in population in the state.  It has a density of 0.6 persons per square mile making it 92 out of 93 in the state.  Arthur County has 29.6% of its population in its incorporated areas.  There are no Interstates or United States Highways in the county.  The county is a rectangle.  The Town of Arthur is located near the center of the county.  Arthur is the county seat and, as the only incorporated city, it is the largest city.  It is 29.6% of the county population.
