The Modern brown brick building was erected in 1976.  It sits on a square at 4th, Church, 5th, and State streets.  The facility is on Nebraska State Highway 91 which is State Street.  Glenn Stippich is the building designer.  The courthouse sits on a hill and features a tower.  Veteran memorials are on the grounds.  There was a classier 1897 version earlier in Albion, the only county seat.  The county was organized on January 1, 1871 from Native American Territory as the 47th county.  Boone County was named for frontiersman Daniel Boone.  The county seat was named for Albion, Michigan. 

Boone County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  Four District Court Judges and Four County Court Judges serve Boone, Butler, Colfax, Hamilton, Merrick, Nance, Platte, Polk, Saunders, Seward and York counties.  The county is in northeastern Nebraska.  Grand Island, Nebraska is southwest and Omaha, Nebraska is southeast of the county.  The county is shaped like the State of New Mexico.  The county center is 3.4 miles Northwest of Albion.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Antelope, Madison, Platte, Nance, Greeley, and Wheeler counties. 

The area of the county is 687 square miles.  It is 41 out of 93 in the state.  It ranks 52 out of 93 in population in the state.  It has a density of 7.8 persons per square mile making it 49 out of 93 in the state.  Boone County has 59.3% of its population in its incorporated areas.  There are no Interstates or United States Highways in the county.  Albion is in the eastern third of the county.  Albion is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 31.6% of the county population.  The county seat is pronounced AL-BEE-ON.
