The brown brick Modern style was given the 1967 courthouse.  It is located on 10th Avenue, Jackson Street, 11th Avenue, and King Street.  United States Highway 30 is one block north of the facility.  A 1911 version existed earlier in Sidney, the only county seat. Hahn Dunn Gardner provided the current courthouse designs.  Cheyenne County was established on January 1, 1871 from Native American Territory as the 48th county.  It is named for the Native American tribe.  The county seat is named for railroad officer Sidney Dillon. 

Cheyenne County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  Four District Court Judges and Five County Court Judges serve Cheyenne, Banner, Box Butte, Dawes, Deuel, Garden, Grant, Kimball, Morrill, Scotts Bluff, Sheridan and Sioux counties.  The county is on the southwest border with Colorado.  Scottsbluff, Nebraska is northwest and Cheyenne, Wyoming is west of the county.  The county center is 12.2 miles Northwest of Sidney nearer Brownson.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Morrill, Garden, and Deuel counties and Colorado and Kimball and Banner counties. 

The area of the county is 1196 square miles.  It is 11 out of 93 in the state.  It ranks 28 out of 93 in population in the state.  It has a density of 7.9 persons per square mile making it 47 out of 93 in the state.  Cheyenne County has 79.5% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 80 travels east to west in the county from Deuel County to Kimball County.  United States Highway 30 parallels Interstate Highway 80 from Deuel to Kimball counties.  United States Highway 385 enters from the north, Morrill County, and joins United States Highway 30 east into Deuel County.  The county is an overall rectangle.  Sidney is in the southern quarter of the county.  Sidney is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 67.7% of the county population.
