A small clock tower tops the 1904 Colonial Revival courthouse which was remodeled in 1972.  The courthouse is at Winter, 3rd, Owen, and 4th streets.  4th Street is United States Highway 68 Business.  Walter Chamberlin & Company provided the light tan brick designs.  A Court of Justice building was added in 2010.  Veteran memorials are on the courthouse grounds.  The county was established on September 1, 1792 from Lincoln County as the 13th county with Russellville as the only county seat.  Its namesake is Benjamin Logan, hero in the Revolutionary War.  Revolutionary War General William Russell is the source for the county seat name. 

Logan County government consists of a County Judge Executive, a sheriff, a clerk, an attorney, a treasurer, a coroner, and an appraiser (executive).  It has 6 Magistrates (legislative.)  One Circuit Court Judge and One District Court Judge serve Logan and Todd counties and a court clerk serves Logan County (judicial.) The county is on the southern border with Tennessee.  Bowling Green, Kentucky is east and Clarksville, Tennessee is south of the county.  The county center is 2.5 miles Northeast of Russellville.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Butler, Warren, and Simpson counties and Tennessee and Todd and Muhlenberg counties. 

The area of the county is 556 square miles.  It is 8 out of 120 in the state.  It ranks 40 out of 120 in population in the state.  It has a density of 49.3 persons per square mile making it 70 out of 120 in the state.  Logan County has 37.7% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 68 crosses the county east to west from Warren County to Todd County.  United States Highway 79 originates in the county and travels southwest into Tennessee.  United States Highway 431 goes north to south from Muhlenberg County to Tennessee.  The county is shaped like a small letter r.  Russellville is located south and west of center in the county.  Russellville is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 26.1% of the county population.
