A 1909 Neo-Classical courthouse was rebuilt after a fire in 1922 and enlarged in 1971 and 1990.  It is located in Courthouse Square at Depot and Main streets.  United States Highway 158 is Main Street in the town.  Fall City Construction provided the light tan brick designs.  It features and tower with a working clock and columns.  Veteran memorials are on the grounds.  An Administration Building and County Office Building augment the courthouse.  Davie County was created on January 1, 1836 from Rowan County as the 67th county with Mocksville as the only county seat.  It is named for Governor William R. Davie.  The county seat is named for a settler’s family, Mock. 

Davie County government consists of a manager, a register, a sheriff, an attorney, and a clerk (executive).  It has 5 Commissioners (legislative.)  Twenty-one Superior Court Judges serve Davie, Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Cabarrus, Caswell, Chatham, Davidson, Forsyth, Guilford, Iredell, Orange, Rockingham, Rowan, Stokes, Surry, Wilkes, and Yadkin counties, Ten District Court Judges serve Davie and Davidson counties and a court clerk serves Davie County (judicial.)  The county is in central North Carolina.  Greensboro, North Carolina is northeast and Charlotte, North Carolina is south of the county.  The county center is 3.5 miles North-Northeast of Mocksville.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Forsyth, Davidson, Rowan, Iredell, and Yadkin counties. 

The area of the county is 266 square miles.  It is 92 out of 100 in the state.  It ranks 60 out of 100 in population in the state.  It has a density of 160.6 persons per square mile making it 33 out of 100 in the state.  Davie County has 23.3% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 40 crosses the county from northeast to southwest from Forsyth County to Iredell County.  United States Highway 64 comes from Davidson County, east, and goes to Iredell County, west.  United States Highway 158 enters from Forsyth County, northeast, and terminates.  United States Highway 601 travels north to south from Yadkin County to Rowan County.  The county resembles the State of Nevada.  Mocksville is located south of center in the county.  Mocksville is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 13.8% of the county population.  This county is in the Winston-Salem Metropolitan Statistical Area.
