The tan brick Art Deco facility built in 1933 serves Tillamook County.  The facility is at the intersection of Laurel Avenue and 1st Street.  United States Highway 101 is one block to the west of the site.  Ormond R. Bean and William Holford are the architects.  There was a 1905 version of the courthouse in Tillamook, the only county seat.  The county was established on December 15, 1853 from Clatsop, Yamhill, and Polk counties as the 12th county.  Tillamook County and its county seat are named for a Native American tribe. 

Tillamook County government consists of a treasurer, a sheriff, an attorney, an administrator, and a clerk (executive).  It has 3 Commissioners (legislative.)  Two District Court Judges serve Tillamook County (judicial.)  The county is on the western coast.  The Pacific Ocean is its western border.  Portland, Oregon is northeast and Eugene, Oregon is southeast of the county.  The county center is 33.4 miles Northeast of Tillamook nearer Lee’s Camp.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Clatsop, Washington, Yamhill, Polk, and Lincoln counties and the Pacific Ocean. 

The area of the county is 1102 square miles.  It is 26 out of 36 in the state.  It ranks 21 out of 36 in population in the state.  It has a density of 24.9 persons per square mile making it 19 out of 36 in the state.  Tillamook County has 37.2% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 26 clips the northeast corner of the county from Clatsop County, north, to Washington County, east.  United States Highway 101 goes north to south from Clatsop County, to Lincoln County.  The county looks like a fat capital letter F.  The City of Tillamook is in the western quarter of the county.  Tillamook is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 19.0% of the county population.  The county and the county seat are pronounced TIL-A-MUK.
