The gray brick and marble Classical Revival and Beaux Arts courthouse, built in 1905 with its dominating clock tower, stands majestically to the west of the city center.  After the county was organized on April 25, 1846, the city of Corsicana has been the site for all five courthouses (1848, 1851, 1858, 1880, and 1905.)  Navarro County was formed from Robertson County as the 65th county.  The building sits at the corner of 3rd Avenue and 13th Street.  United States Highway 287 is six blocks east of the site while Interstate Highway 45 bypasses the city to the east.  The architect for the building was James E. Flanders.  The building was remodeled in 1964 and a Justice Center was added in 1988.  Navarro County was named for Jose Antonio Navarro.  He was a delegate to the Texas Constitutional Convention and later a member of the Texas Congress.  Corsicana derives its name from the Island of Corsica, the birthplace of Jose Navarro.  Navarro County is the birthplace of 1 Texas Governor, Beauford H. Jester. 

Navarro County government consists of a sheriff, a County Judge, and 4 Commissioners.  One District Court Judge and Two County Court Judges serve Navarro County.  The county is situated to the southeast of the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas Metroplex, in the north center of the state.  The Trinity River is the eastern border.  Waco, Texas is west of the county.  The county center is in Corsicana 1.1 miles Southwest of the city center.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Kaufman, Henderson, Anderson, Freestone, Limestone, Hill, and Ellis counties. 

The area of the county is 1071 square miles.  It is 55 out of 254 in the state.  It ranks 62 out of 254 in population in the state.  It has a density of 49.1 persons per square mile making it 75 out of 254 in the state.  Navarro County has 53.2% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 45 goes north to south from Ellis County into Freestone County.  United States Highway 287 enters joined with Interstate Highway 45 from Ellis County, splits in Corsicana, and exits into the northeast tip of Freestone County.  The county is a 45-dgree diamond with Corsicana near the center of the county.  Corsicana is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 47.7% of the county population.  The county is pronounced NA-VAR-ROE.  The county seat is pronounced KORE-SI-CAN-A.  This county is in the Corsicana Micropolitan Statistical Area.
