Another classic courthouse is replaced by a Modern concrete and glass structure. The new 1967 courthouse is located next to the older courthouse at Glass and Constitution streets. The site is one block east of United States Highway 59 Business coming through the city. Christopher DiStefano and Associates are the architects. Three courthouses (1849, 1892, and 1967) have served Victoria County since its January 8, 1836 organization, all in the city of Victoria. The county is one of the original 23 in the state (16th county.) Victoria County and City are named for Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe de Jesus Victoria.
The area of the county is 883 square miles. It is 171 out of 254 in the state. It ranks 45 out of 254 in population in the state. It has a density of 103.4 persons per square mile making it 46 out of 254 in the state. Victoria County has 71.8% of its population in its incorporated areas. United States Highway 59 crosses diagonally from Jackson County, northeast, into Goliad County, west. United States Highway 77 enters at the north tip from Gonzales County and exits to the southwest into Refugio County. United States Highway 87 crosses northwest to southeast, DeWitt County to Calhoun County. The county is shaped like a diamond turned 45-degrees. The Guadalupe River forms its southwest border. Victoria City is slightly south and west of the center of the county. Victoria is the county seat and the largest city since it is the only incorporated city. It is 71.8% of the county population.

Three District Court Judges serve Victoria, Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, and Refugio counties and One District Court Judge and Three County Court Judges serve Victoria County. Victoria County is west of Houston, Texas, southeast of San Antonio, Texas, and northeast of Corpus Christi, Texas in south central Texas. The county center is in Victoria 2.1 miles Northeast of the city center. The county is surrounded clockwise by Lavaca, Jackson, Calhoun, Refugio, Goliad, and De Witt counties. This county is in the Victoria Metropolitan Statistical Area.
