The unique Modern wood and glass facility was built in 1969. The courthouse is on Courthouse Lane one block south of Wisconsin State Highway 47. Zwack & Peeples are the designers. There was a wooden courthouse earlier in Keshena. The county was founded on July 3, 1959 from the Menominee Indian Reservation as the 72nd and final county with Keshena as the only county seat. Menominee County is named for the Native American tribe. The county seat was named for a Native American chief.
