The old red-brick schoolhouse appearing courthouse was built in 1909.  It is located three blocks west of United States Highway 65.  It is on a square surrounded by Stephenson, Willow, Rush, and Main streets.  Charles L. Thompson designed this Georgian Revival style courthouse.  Boone County is named for Daniel Boone, frontiersman and congressman.  One of the county seats of Logan County is also named for Boone.  Harrison is named for Union General M. LaRue Harrison.  Boone County was formed on April 9, 1869 from parts of Carroll and Marion counties as the 61st county.  Harrison is the only county seat. 

Boone County government consists of a sheriff, assessor, treasurer, and coroner (executive).  It has 11 Quorum Court members (legislative.)  Four Circuit Court Judges serve Boone, Baxter, Marion, and Newton counties and a District Court Judge, an Attorney, and a County Clerk serve Boone County (judicial.)  The county is in northwest Arkansas on the border with Missouri.  Fayetteville, Arkansas is West of the county.  The center of the county is 9.3 miles Northeast of Harrison in Bergman.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Missouri and Marion, Searcy, Newton, and Carroll counties.  The county is rectangular.  Harrison is in the southern half of the county.  Harrison is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 35.0% of the county population. 

The area of the county is 601.8 square miles.  It is 60 of 75 in size.  It ranks 21 out of 75 in population in the state.  It has a density of 62.1 persons per square mile making it 18 out of 75 in the state.  Boone County has 42.3% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 62 crosses the county east to west from Marion County into Carroll County.  United States Highway 65 comes from the north, Missouri, and goes to the south, Newton County.  United States Highway 412 is joined with United States Highway 62 across the county from Marion County to Carroll County.  The county is in the Harrison Micropolitan Statistical Area.
