The Modern style courthouse was built in 2001 for this city-county.  It is on Descombes Drive east of Main and 3rd streets.  The site is three blocks north of United States Highway 287 crossing through the city.  Roth Sheppard Architects designed the brown brick building.  The county was created on November 15, 2001 as the 64th and final county separating from Boulder, Weld, Adams, and Jefferson counties.  Broomfield, obviously, is the only county seat.  Broomfield gets its name for broomcorn grown in the area.  The center of the county is in Broomfield 2.1 miles Northeast of city center. 

Broomfield City/County government consists of a police chief, assessor, mayor, coroner, and treasurer (executive).  It has 10 Council Members (legislative.)  Thirteen District Court Judges serve Broomfield and Adams counties and a Trial Court Judge, clerk, and city attorney serve Broomfield County (judicial.)  The county is just north of Denver, Colorado in northeast Colorado.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Weld, Adams, Jefferson, and Boulder counties.  

The area of the county is 33.6 square miles.  The county is 64 out of 64 in the state.  It ranks 12 out of 64 in population in the state.  It has a density of 2205.5 persons per square mile making it 2 out of 64 in the state.  Broomfield County has 100.0% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 25 crosses the eastern part of the county from north to south, entering from Weld County and exiting into Adams County.  United States Highway 36 cuts the southwest corner of the county from Boulder County, northwest, to Jefferson County, south.  United States Highway 87 is joined with Interstate Highway 25 coming from Weld County and going to Adams County.  United States Highway 287 goes north to south from Boulder County to Adams County.  A jagged pencil diagonally from northeast to southwest describes the county.  Broomfield and Broomfield County are a single entity.  Broomfield is 100% of the county population.  This county is in the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield Metropolitan Statistical Area.
