A Classical Revival government stone and concrete building with tall columns and an arched arrangement was built in 1932.  The structure is located in a park setting on Bannock Street between Colfax and 14th streets.  Colfax Street is United States Highway 40 passing through the city.  Allied Architects Association provided the courthouse designs.  The courthouse was remodeled in 1965.  There was an 1883 version of the courthouse.  Denver City-County was established on December 1, 1902 from Arapahoe County as the 59th county.  Denver has been the only county seat.  A Justice Center was added in 2011.  Kansas Governor James W. Denver is the namesake of the city and county.  The South Platte River flows through the city-county.  The Colorado state capitol is located in this county.  The center of the county is in Denver 1.8 miles Southeast of the city center. 

Denver City/County government consists of a sheriff, assessor, mayor, coroner, and treasurer (executive).  It has 13 Council Members (legislative.)  Twenty-three District Court Judges and Seventeen Trial Court Judges, clerk, and city attorney serve Denver County (judicial.)  Denver is located in northeast Colorado just east of the Rocky Mountains.  Denver County was the birthplace of 3 Colorado Governors, Teller Ammons, Stephen L. R. McNichols, and A. William Ritter.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Adams, Arapahoe, and Jefferson counties.  

The area of the county is 155.7 square miles.  The county is 62 out of 64 in the state.  It ranks 2 out of 64 in population in the state.  It has a density of 4595.6 persons per square mile making it 1 out of 64 in the state.  Denver County has 100.0% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 25 crosses the county north to south from Adams County into Arapahoe County.  Interstate Highway 70 crosses the north part of the county, east to west, Arapahoe County to Jefferson County.  United States Highway 6 enters from Adams County, northeast, and exits into Jefferson County, west.  United States Highway 36 cuts the northeast corner joined with Interstate Highway 270 from Adams County (north), combines with Interstate Highway 70 and exits back into Adams County (east).  United States Highway 40 comes east to west from Arapahoe County to Jefferson County.  United States Highway 85 enters joined with United States Highway 6 from Adams County, splits in Denver, and exits south into Arapahoe County.  United States Highway 87 is combined with Interstate Highway 25 from Adams County to Arapahoe County.  United States Highway 287 enters from the north, Adams County, joins United States Highway 40, and exits east into Arapahoe County.  Denver City-County is shaped like a jagged slash mark from northeast to southwest.  Denver County and Denver City are combined thus Denver is 100.0% of the county population.  The county is in the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield Metropolitan Statistical Area.
