The former school Modern style building was built of concrete in 1997.  It is on Albany Road at Griffin Lane in this small community.  United States Highway 29 is Albany Road.  G. Hubert Jones & Associates are the architects.  There was also a 1901 version of the courthouse for the county since it was created on December 5, 1811 as the 38th county.  Danielsville has always been the county seat.  The county was taken from parts of Clarke, Elbert, Franklin, Jackson, and Oglethorpe counties.  Madison County is named for President James Madison.  He is also the source for the county seat of Morgan County.  The county seat is named for General Allen Daniel.  The county center is 2.4 miles South-Southeast of Danielsville. 

Madison County government consists of a sheriff, an administrator, a coroner, a clerk, and a tax commissioner (executive).  It has 6 Commissioners (legislative.)  Twenty-four Superior Court Judges serve Madison, Banks, Barrow, Burke, Clarke, Columbia, Elbert, Franklin, Glascock, Hart, Jackson, Lincoln, McDuffie, Newton, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Richmond, Taliaferro, Walton, Warren, and Wilkes counties and Five County Judges, court clerk, and county attorney serve Madison County (judicial.) Madison County is in northeast Georgia immediately northeast of Athens, Georgia.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Franklin, Hart, Elbert, Oglethorpe, Clarke, Jackson, and Banks counties. 

The area of the county is 284 square miles.  It is 106 out of 159 counties in the state.  It ranks 60 out of 159 in population in the state.  It has a density of 106.1 persons per square mile making it 56 out of 159 in the state.  Madison County has 12.1% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 29 enters from the northeast, Franklin County, and exits southwest, Clarke County.  The county is shaped like a small letter t tilting northwest.  Danielsville is located west of center in the county.  Comer is located on the southeast border of the county.  Danielsville is the county seat and Comer is the largest city.  Danielsville is 2.2% of the county population while Comer is 5.0% of the county population.  This county is in the Athens-Clarke County Metropolitan Statistical Area.
