A Modern style red/brown brick building was built in 1975 as the courthouse.  It replaced a classic 1905 courthouse.  It is on a square at Cuthbert, College, Main, and 1st streets.  Georgia State Highway 91 is First Street.  Tomberlin Associates are the building designers.  The structure was renovated in 2012.  The building features columns and veteran memorials on the grounds.  Miller County was established on February 26, 1856 from parts of Baker and Early counties as the 116th county.  Colquitt has always been the county seat.  The county is named for Georgia Legislator Andrew J. Miller.  The county seat is named for Senator Walter Colquitt.  He is also the source name for Colquitt County.  The county center is in Colquitt .5 miles South of the city center. 

Miller County government consists of a sheriff, an administrator, a coroner, a clerk, and a tax commissioner (executive).  It has 5 Commissioners (legislative.)  Sixteen Superior Court Judges serve Miller, Atkinson, Baker, Berrien, Brooks, Calhoun, Clay, Clinch, Colquitt, Cook, Decatur, Dougherty, Early, Echols, Grady, Irwin, Lanier, Lowndes, Mitchell, Quitman, Randolph, Seminole, Terrell, Thomas, Tift, Turner, and Worth counties and a State Judge and Three County Judges, court clerk, and county attorney serve Miller County (judicial.) Miller County is in the far southwestern part of the state.  Columbus, Georgia is north and Tallahassee, Florida is south of the county.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Baker, Decatur, Seminole, and Early counties. 

The area of the county is 283 square miles.  It is 107 out of 159 counties in the state.  It ranks 147 out of 159 in population in the state.  It has a density of 21.2 persons per square mile making it 140 out of 159 in the state.  Miller County has 33.2% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 27 crosses the county from north to south from Early County to Decatur County.  The county is a rectangle.  Colquitt is located at the county’s center.  Colquitt is the county seat and the only incorporated city thus it is the largest city.  It is 33.2% of the county population.  The county seat is pronounced KOEL-KET.
