The red brick Romanesque Revival and Colonial Revival courthouse for Pike County was built in 1895 on a square surrounded by Main, Barnesville, Griffin, and Jackson streets.  United States Highway 19 is Main Street in the town.  J. W. Golucke and Stewart are the designers.  It was remodeled in 1936 and renovated in 2013.  The building features a tower with a working clock.  Veteran memorials are on the grounds.  Pike County was cut from Monroe County on December 9, 1822 as the 57th county.  Newnan was the original county seat until 1825 when Zebulon took over.  The county and county seat are named for explorer Zebulon Pike.  The county center is 4.8 miles Southwest of Zebulon nearer Concord.  The Flint River forms the western border of the county. 

Pike County government consists of a sheriff, an administrator, a coroner, a clerk, and a tax commissioner (executive).  It has 5 Commissioners (legislative.)  Eighteen Superior Court Judges serve Pike, Butts, Carroll, Clayton, Coweta, Fayette, Heard, Henry, Lamar, Meriwether, Monroe, Spalding, Troup, and Upson counties and Five County Judges, court clerk, and county attorney serve Pike County (judicial.) The county is in west central Georgia south of Atlanta, Georgia and northeast of Columbus, Georgia.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Spalding, Lamar, Upson, and Meriwether counties. 

The area of the county is 218 square miles.  It is 131 out of 159 counties in the state.  It ranks 94 out of 159 in population in the state.  It has a density of 86.6 persons per square mile making it 63 out of 159 in the state.  Pike County has 15.5% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 19 crosses the county from north to south from Spalding County to Upson County.  United States Highway 41 enters the county joined with United States Highway 19 but immediately splits to the east into Lamar County.  The county is overall rectangular with a small hook added to the southwest corner.  Zebulon is located in the eastern half of the county.  Zebulon is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 6.5% of the county population.  The county seat is pronounced ZEB-UE-LUN.  This county is in the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta Metropolitan Statistical Area.
