A Modern style red brick courthouse was built in 2006 to replace the 1887 structure. It sits on Front Street and Gordon Street. Georgia Highway 216 is one block west of the site. IPG, Inc., provided the building designs. It sits on a hill surrounded by an iron fence. The old courthouse stands near the middle of the town and it used as a welcome center. The county center is 7.7 miles East-Northeast of Cuthbert. The county was founded on December 20, 1828 from Lee County as the 75th county. Lumpkin was the first county seat with Cuthbert taking over soon after in 1828. Virginia Congressman John Randolph inspired the name of the county. Congressman John Alfred Cuthbert is the source for the county seat’s name.

Sixteen Superior Court Judges serve Randolph, Atkinson, Baker, Berrien, Brooks, Calhoun, Clay, Clinch, Colquitt, Cook, Decatur, Dougherty, Early, Echols, Grady, Irwin, Lanier, Lowndes, Miller, Mitchell, Quitman, Seminole, Terrell, Thomas, Tift, Turner, and Worth counties and Five County Judges, court clerk, and county attorney serve Randolph County (judicial.) The county is located in southwest Georgia south of Columbus, Georgia and northwest of Albany, Georgia. The county is surrounded clockwise by Stewart, Webster, Terrell, Calhoun, Clay, and Quitman counties.
The area of the county is 429 square miles. It is 49 out of 159 counties in the state. It ranks 145 out of 159 in population in the state. It has a density of 15.0 persons per square mile making it 150 out of 159 in the state. Randolph County has 62.3% of its population in its incorporated areas. United States Highway 27 crosses north to south through the county from Stewart County to Clay County. United States Highway 82 goes east to west in the county from Terrell County to Quitman County. The county is shaped like an upside down capital letter T. Cuthbert is slightly west of center in the county. Cuthbert is the county seat and the largest city. It is 49.0% of the county population. The county seat is pronounced KUTH-BURT.
