The Modern style 1997 red brick building is at Fox and John streets.  United States Highway 34 is one block north.  Healy Snyder Bender & Associates and James W. Carpenter & Associates are the architects.  There is also a 2010 Administrative Center.  The 1887 courthouse was restored in 1998.  There was also a courthouse in Oswego dating to 1845.  The county was formed on January 1, 1841 from La Salle and Kane counties as the 89th county.  Although Yorkville was the original county seat, Oswego held the position for 1841–1845.  The county is named for Amos Kendall, United States Postmaster General.  The county seat is named for New York, home of one of the founders. 

Kendall County government consists of a sheriff, an attorney, a coroner, a clerk, a treasurer, and an assessor (executive).  It has 10 Board Members (legislative.)  Twelve Circuit Court Judges serve Kendall and DeKalb counties and a court clerk serves Kendall County (judicial.) The county is in northeast Illinois.  Chicago, Illinois is northeast and Peoria, Illinois is southwest of the county.  The Fox River flows through the county.  The county center is 7.3 miles South of Yorkville.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Kane, Du Page, Will, Grundy, La Salle, and De Kalb counties.  The county is rectangular.  Yorkville is slightly north and west of center in the county.  Oswego is in the northeast corner.  Yorkville is the county seat and Oswego is the largest city.  Yorkville is 16.3% of the county population while Oswego is 26.2% of the county population.  The largest city is pronounced OS-WEE-GOE. 

The area of the county is 320 square miles.  It is 89 out of 102 in the state.  It ranks 15 out of 102 in population in the state.  It has a density of 412.1 persons per square mile making it 8 out of 102 in the state.  Kendall County has 80.6% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 30 crosses the northern part of the county coming from the north, Kane County, and going east, Will County.  United States Highway 34 crosses east to west from Kane County to De Kalb County.  United States Highway 52 crosses in the south east to west from Will to La Salle counties.  This county is in the Chicago-Naperville-Joliet Metropolitan Statistical Area.
