The red/brown brick and concrete Modern style courthouse for this county was built in 1979.  There was a much nicer 1884 courthouse preceding the current one.  Richard Byers is the architect.  Cass County was established on December 18, 1828 from Native American Territory as the 59th county with Logansport as the only county seat.  The current courthouse is located on Court Street between 3rd and 4th streets.  Indiana State Highway 17 is 3rd Street.  The building has a working clock on the face.  The grounds have a liberty bell replica and a canon.  Michigan Territory Governor Lewis Cass is the namesake for the county.  The county seat is named for a Native American scout who served during the War of 1812. 

Cass County government consists of a sheriff, 3 Commissioners, and 7 Council Members.  A Circuit Court Judge and Two Superior Court Judges serve Cass County.  The county is in north central Indiana.  Fort Wayne, Indiana is northeast and Indianapolis, Indiana is southeast of the county.  The Wabash River flows through the county.  The county center is in Logansport .8 miles Southeast of the city center.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Fulton, Miami, Howard, Carroll, White, and Pulaski counties. 

The area of the county is 412 square miles.  It is 31 out of 92 in the state.  It ranks 40 out of 92 in population in the state.  It has a density of 91.9 persons per square mile making it 44 out of 92 in the state.  Cass County has 56.8% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 24 crosses east to west through the county from Miami County to White County.  United States Highway 35 goes northwest to southeast from Pulaski to Howard counties.  The county looks like the number 9.  Logansport is near the geographical center of the county although it is near one western border.  Logansport is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 48.5% of the county population.  This county is in the Logansport Micropolitan Statistical Area.
