The Neo-Classical courthouse was built in 1927 on Capitol at Walnut streets.  Indiana State Highway 62 turns at the courthouse.  The building is made of tan brick and masonry and designed by Fowler & Kargis.  The former state capitol built in 1814 also served as the county courthouse.  The county was formed on December 1, 1808 from parts of Clark and Knox counties as the 4th county with Corydon has always been the county seat.  It is named for the Territorial Governor and future United States President William Henry Harrison.  The county seat name was inspired by a song with the shepherd named Corydon. 

Harrison County government consists of a sheriff, an auditor, a clerk, a coroner, a treasurer, and an assessor (executive).  It has 7 Council Members (legislative.)  A Circuit Court Judge, a Superior Court Judge, and a prosecutor serve Harrison County (judicial.) The county is in southern Indiana on the Ohio River border with Kentucky.  The Blue River forms its western border.  Louisville, Kentucky is east of the county and Evansville, Indiana is west.  The county center is .8 miles East-Northeast of Corydon.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Washington and Floyd counties and Kentucky and Crawford County. 

The area of the county is 485 square miles.  It is 14 out of 92 in the state.   It ranks 38 out of 92 in population in the state.  It has a density of 81.8 persons per square mile making it 48 out of 92 in the state.  Harrison County has 15.0% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 64 crosses the county east to west from Floyd County to Crawford County.  United States Highway 150 cuts the northeast corner of the county from Washington County, north, to Floyd County, east.  The county looks like a bowl of ice cream that is stretched and then flattened.  Corydon is near the geographical center of the county.  Corydon is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 8.0% of the county population.  The county seat is pronounced KOER-I-DON.  This county is in the Louisville/Jefferson County Metropolitan Statistical Area.
