A dome sits on top of the masonry Neo-Classical 1904 courthouse. It sits at Jefferson and State streets. United States Highway 224 is State Street in the city. John W. Gaddis is the building architect. The building was under renovation in 2018. Veteran memorials are on the grounds. There was an 1858 courthouse earlier in the county in Huntington the only county seat. The county was founded on February 2, 1832 from Native American Territory as the 66th county. The county and county seat are named for Samuel Huntington, signer of the Declaration of Independence.

A Circuit Court Judge, a Superior Court Judge, and a prosecutor serve Huntington County (judicial.) The county is in northeast Indiana. Fort Wayne, Indiana is directly northeast and Indianapolis, Indiana is southwest of the county. The Wabash River flows through the county. The county center is 7.6 miles South-Southwest of Huntington nearer Majenica. The county is surrounded clockwise by Whitley, Allen, Wells, Grant, and Wabash counties.
The area of the county is 383 square miles. It is 57 out of 92 in the state. It ranks 42 out of 92 in population in the state. It has a density of 95.7 persons per square mile making it 43 out of 92 in the state. Huntington County has 59.2% of its population in its incorporated areas. Interstate 69 goes northeast to southwest in the county from Allen County to Grant County. United States Highway 24 crosses northeast to west from Whitley County to Wabash County. United States Highway 224 enters from the east, Wells County, and terminates. The county is a rectangle. The City of Huntington is located in the northern third of the county. Huntington is county seat and the largest city. It is 46.4% of the county population. This county is in the Huntington Micropolitan Statistical Area.
