A modern concrete Justice Building was built across from the courthouse in 1982 to augment the Victorian Eclectic 1882 masonry courthouse.  The county was created on February 7, 1835 as the 74th county and named for Revolutionary War hero Tadeusz Kosciusko.  The county was taken from Native American Territory.  Pierceton was the first county seat followed by Warsaw in 1846.  The county seat is named for Warsaw, Poland.  The courthouse is on a square at Center, Lake, Main, and Buffalo streets.  T. J. Tolan and Son are the architects.  The building features a working clock tower and corner towers.  The grounds have veteran memorials and a canon. 

Kosciusko County government consists of a sheriff, an auditor, a clerk, a coroner, a treasurer, and an assessor (executive).  It has 7 Council Members (legislative.)  A Circuit Court Judge, Four Superior Court Judges, and a prosecutor serve Kosciusko County (judicial.) The county is in northern Indiana.  Fort Wayne, Indiana is east and South Bend, Indiana is northwest of the county.  The Tippecanoe River originates in the county.  The county center is 3.6 miles North of Warsaw.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Elkhart, Noble, Whitley, Wabash, Fulton, and Marshall counties. 

The area of the county is 531 square miles.  It is 5 out of 92 in the state.   It ranks 21 out of 92 in population in the state.  It has a density of 151.1 persons per square mile making it 28 out of 92 in the state.  Kosciusko County has 39.1% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 30 crosses the county southeast to northwest from Whitley County to Marshall County.  The county is an overall rectangle with an extension on the southwest and a cutout in the southeast.  Warsaw is located in the center of the county.  Warsaw is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 19.7% of the county population.  The county is pronounced KOS-SEE-US-KOE.  This county is in the Warsaw Micropolitan Statistical Area.
