A dome sits on the tan brick and masonry building built in 1907.  It is sited on Monroe, Front, Depot, and 2nd streets.  Indiana State Highway 28 is 2nd Street in the town.  Joseph W. Royer provided the County Capitol style courthouse designs.  The building’s insides feature iron railings and a canon sits on the grounds.  The county was formed on January 19, 1827 from Native American Territory as the 55th county.  Warrenton was the original county seat with Williamsport taking over in 1829.  The county is named for the Revolutionary War hero Joseph Warren.  The county seat is named for settler William Harrison. 

Warren County government consists of a sheriff, 3 Commissioners, and 7 Council Members.  A Circuit Court Judge serves Warren County.  Warren County is in the west on the border with Illinois.  The Wabash River forms its southeast border.  Indianapolis, Indiana is southeast and Gary, Indiana is north of the county.  The county center is 3.9 miles Northwest of Williamsport nearer Carbondale.  The county is surrounded clockwise Benton, Tippecanoe, Fountain, and Vermillion County and Illinois. 

The area of the county is 365 square miles.  It is 67 out of 92 in the state.  It ranks 90 out of 92 in population in the state.  It has a density of 23.1 persons per square mile making it 91 out of 92 in the state.  Warren County has 35.1% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 41 crosses north to south through the county from Benton County to Vermillion County.  United States Highway 136 clips the southern part of the county east to west from Fountain County to Vermillion County.  The county is shaped like a diamond facing northwest.  Williamsport is on the eastern border slightly south of the middle of the county.  Williamsport is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 23.0% of the county population.
