A modern justice center was built in 1999 to augment the 1903 tan brick courthouse.  It is located on a square at Locust, 3rd, Main, and 2nd streets.  Locust Street is Indiana State Highway 62.  The Classical Revival courthouse architects were Harris & Shopbell.  It was renovated in 1996.  There was an 1834 courthouse also in Boonville.  The county was established on April 30, 1813 from Knox County as the 9th county.  Evansville was the first county seat, followed by Darlington, and finally to Boonville in 1818.  It is named for Battle of Tippecanoe hero Jacob Warrick.  The county seat was named for settler Ratliff Boon. 

Warrick County government consists of a sheriff, 3 Commissioners, and 7 Council Members.  A Circuit Court Judge and Two Superior Court Judges serve Warrick County.  Warrick County is in the southwest part of Indiana on the Ohio River border with Kentucky.  Evansville, Indiana is immediately to its west.  The county center is in Boonville .3 miles North of the city center.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Pike, Dubois, and Spencer counties and Kentucky and Vanderburgh and Gibson counties. 

The area of the county is 385 square miles.  It is 54 out of 92 in the state.  It ranks 27 out of 92 in population in the state.  It has a density of 166.0 persons per square mile making it 25 out of 92 in the state.  Warrick County has 24.1% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 64 crosses the north part of the county east to west from Spencer County to Vanderburgh County.  The county’s shape is a fat pistol pointing east.  Boonville is south and west of center in the county.  Boonville is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 10.5% of the county population.  This county is in the Evansville Metropolitan Statistical Area.
