The masonry and concrete Classical Revival structure was built in 1925.  It is located on 7th Street between Barnett and Ann streets.  United States Highway 69 is 7th Street in the city.  The building’s designer was the firm of Wight and Wight.  The exterior features tall columns.  An Administrative Center was added in 1959.  There was a nice 1882 courthouse also in Kansas City, the only county seat.  The county was established on January 29, 1859 from parts of Leavenworth and Johnson counties as the 28th county.  It is named for the Native American tribe.  The county seat is named for the river.  Wyandotte County was the birthplace of 2 Kansas Governors, Edward F. Arn and Robert B. Docking. 

Wyandotte County government consists of a sheriff and 10 Commissioners.  Seventeen District Court Judges serve Wyandotte County.  Wyandotte County is in eastern Kansas on the border with Missouri.  Topeka, Kansas is west of the county.  The Kansas River and the Missouri River meet in the county.  The county center is in Kansas City 3.7 miles West of the city center.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Missouri and Johnson and Leavenworth counties. 

The area of the county is 151 square miles.  It is 105 out of 105 in the state.  It ranks 4 out of 105 in population in the state.  It has a density of 1120.7 persons per square mile making it 2 out of 105 in the state.  Wyandotte County has 99.9% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 35 enters from the east, Missouri, and exits to the south, Johnson County.  Interstate Highway 70 goes east to west in the county from Missouri to Leavenworth County.  United States Highway 24 crosses east to west from Missouri to Leavenworth County.  United States Highway 40 is joined with Interstate Highway 70 from Missouri, splits and joins United States Highway 24 into Leavenworth County.  United States Highway 56 travels east to south from Missouri to Johnson County.  United States Highway 69 goes north to south from Missouri to Johnson County.  United States Highway 73 comes from Leavenworth County and terminates.  United States Highway 169 travels north to south from Missouri to Johnson County.  The county shape looks like a bird’s head pointing down.  The City of Kansas City encompasses most of the county in the north, south, and east.  Kansas City is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 92.5% of the county population.  The county is pronounced WIEN-DOT.  This county is in the Kansas City Metropolitan Statistical Area.
