The classic stone Beaux Arts structure was built in 1860 but significantly renovated in 1915 following a fire.  It is situated on a square at Main, Bowen, College and Court streets.  United States Highway 127 is Main Street in the town.  Dennis Haly was the building designer.  The structure features columns and a tower.  Veteran memorials are on the grounds.  The building was enlarged in 1998.  Anderson County was created on January 1, 1827 from parts of Franklin, Washington, and Mercer counties as the 82nd county with Lawrenceburg as the only county seat.  The county is named for Congressman Richard Clough Anderson, Jr.  The county seat is named for settler William Lawrence. 

Anderson County government consists of a sheriff, County Judge Executive, and 6 Magistrates.  Two Circuit Court Judges, Two District Court Judges, and One Family Court Judge serve Anderson, Shelby, and Spencer counties.  The county is in the central part of state.  Lexington, Kentucky is east and Louisville, Kentucky is west of the county.  The county center is 6.3 miles Southwest of Lawrenceburg nearer Glensboro.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Franklin, Woodford, Mercer, Washington, Nelson, Spencer, and Shelby counties.  

The area of the county is 203 square miles.  It is 100 out of 120 in the state.  It ranks 49 out of 120 in population in the state.  It has a density of 117.5 persons per square mile making it 23 out of 120 in the state.  Anderson County has 49.2% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 62 crosses east to southwest in the county from Woodford County to Nelson County.  United States Highway 127 goes north to south from Franklin County to Mercer County.  The county is shaped like a water glass tipping east.  Lawrenceburg is in the northeast quarter of the county.  Lawrenceburg is the county seat and the only incorporated city, thus it is the largest city.  It is 49.2% of the county population.  This county is in the Frankfort Micropolitan Statistical Area.
