The tall tower on the 1887 Victorian courthouse stands out in this small community.  The building is on Courthouse Square which is at Campbellsville and Hustonville roads.  Kentucky State Highway 70 Business is Campbellsville Road.  H. P. McDonald and Brothers provided the brown/red brick and stone courthouse designs.  A Justice Center has been added in 2004.  Veteran memorials are on the grounds.  Casey County was founded on November 14, 1806 from Lincoln County as the 46th county with Liberty as the only county seat.  The county is named for Colonel William Casey, settler.  The county seat is named for the concept of liberty.  Casey County was the birthplace of 1 Kentucky Governor, Wallace G. Wilkinson. 

Casey County government consists of a sheriff, County Judge Executive, and 4 Magistrates.  One Circuit Court Judge and One District Court Judge serve Casey and Adair counties.  The county is in south central Kentucky.  Lexington, Kentucky is northeast and Louisville, Kentucky is northwest of the county.  The county center is 3.3 miles East of Liberty.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Boyle, Lincoln, Pulaski, Russell, Adair, Taylor, and Marion counties. 

The area of the county is 446 square miles.  It is 20 out of 120 in the state.  It ranks 71 out of 120 in population in the state.  It has a density of 35.8 persons per square mile making it 97 out of 120 in the state.  Casey County has 12.7% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 127 goes northeast to south in the county from Lincoln County to Russell County.  The county looks like a bag of marbles.  Liberty is located slightly south of center in the county.  Liberty is the county seat and the only incorporated city, thus it is the largest city.  It is 12.7% of the county population.
