The Greek Revival style of the 1838 building was maintained in 1868 and 1938 remodelings and 2007 renovation and enlargement.  On a square at Washington, Main, Main Cross, and High streets, this facility faces United States Highway 42 in the town.  Winter & Carr are the architects of this white brick structure.  The courthouse features columns and the grounds have veteran memorials.  The county was carved from Franklin and Shelby counties on December 14, 1798 as the 26th county.  Carrollton and Port William were the first two county seats.  Warsaw became the county seat in 1837.  United States Secretary of Treasury Albert Gallatin provided the inspiration for the county name.  The county seat is named for Warsaw, Poland. 

The area of the county is 105 square miles.  It is 119 out of 120 in the state.  It ranks 105 out of 120 in population in the state.  It has a density of 82.8 persons per square mile making it 44 out of 120 in the state.  Gallatin County has 26.5% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 71 goes northeast to southwest in the county from Boone County to Carroll County.  United States Highway 42 parallels Interstate Highway 71 from Boone to Carroll counties.  United States Highway 127 enters joined with United States Highway 42 splits and exits south into Owen County.  The county is mostly rectangular with a wavy northwest border.  Warsaw is on the northwest river border with Indiana.  Warsaw is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 20.3% of the county population. 

Gallatin County government consists of a sheriff, County Judge Executive, and 4 Magistrates.  Two Circuit Court Judges, Three District Court Judges, and One Family Court Judge serve Gallatin and Boone counties.  The county is in northern Kentucky on the border with Indiana.  The Ohio River forms that border.  The county center is 3.8 miles Southeast of Warsaw.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Indiana and Boone, Grant, Owen, and Carroll counties.  The county is pronounced GAL-A-TIN.  This county is in the Cincinnati-Middletown Metropolitan Statistical Area.
