The columns give class to the 1937 dark red brick Neo-Classical building.  The courthouse is in a square surrounded by North, East, South, and West Main streets.  United States Highway 62 is North and South Main streets in the city.  Thomas J. Nolan is the architect.  A Judicial Building was added in 1979.  In 2009 a Justice Center was built to augment the courthouse.  The courthouse features concrete columns and a working clock.  The county was established on January 18, 1810 from parts of Hardin and Ohio counties as the 53rd county.  There was an 1898 courthouse earlier also in Leitchfield, the only county seat.  The county is named for Virginia Senator William Grayson.  He is also the namesake for the county seat of Carter County.  Leitchfield is named for landowner David Leitch.  

Grayson County government consists of a sheriff, County Judge Executive, and 6 Magistrates.  Two Circuit Court Judges and Two District Court Judges serve Grayson, Breckinridge, and Meade counties.  The county is located in west central Kentucky.  Louisville, Kentucky is northeast and Bowling Green, Kentucky is south of the county.  The county center is 5.3 miles West-Southwest of Leitchfield nearer Millwood.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Breckinridge, Hardin, Hart, Edmonson, Butler, and Ohio counties. 

The area of the county is 504 square miles.  It is 11 out of 120 in the state.  It ranks 43 out of 120 in population in the state.  It has a density of 52.4 persons per square mile making it 67 out of 120 in the state.  Grayson County has 29.8% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 62 crosses the county east to west from Hardin County to Ohio County.  The county shape is a fat comma.  Leitchfield is east of center in the county.  Leitchfield is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 24.2% of the county population.  The county seat is pronounced LEECH-FIELD.
