A dark red brick Modern type courthouse was built in 1965 to replace a pleasant 1865 courthouse.  The courthouse sits at Court, 1st, Columbia, and Broadway streets.  United States Highway 68 is Broadway Street in the town.  Marye and Bond are the courthouse architects.  A Judicial Center was built in 2009.  The grounds have veteran memorials.  The county was created on January 1, 1848 from Green County as the 100th county and named for President Zachary Taylor.  The county seat was named for city founder Andrew Campbell.  Campbellsville has always been the county seat. 

The area of the county is 270 square miles.  It is 76 out of 120 in the state.  It ranks 44 out of 120 in population in the state.  It has a density of 96.4 persons per square mile making it 32 out of 120 in the state.  Taylor County has 43.9% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 68 enters the county from the northeast, Marion County, to the southwest, Green County.  The county is the overall shape of a triangle.  Campbellsville is in the southern half of the county.  Campbellsville is the county seat and, as the only incorporated city, it is the largest city.  It is 43.9% of the county population.  Louisville, Kentucky is northwest and Lexington, Kentucky is northeast of the county. 

Taylor County government consists of a County Judge Executive, a sheriff, a clerk, an attorney, a treasurer, a coroner, and an appraiser (executive).  It has 6 Magistrates (legislative.)  Two Circuit Court Judges and Two District Court Judges serve Taylor, Green, Marion, and Washington counties and a court clerk serves Taylor County (judicial.) The county is in central Kentucky.  The county center is in Campbellsville 1.6 miles North of the city center.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Marion, Casey, Adair, Green, and Larue counties.  This county is in the Campbellsville Micropolitan Statistical Area.
