A red brick Modern Colonial courthouse built in 1975 serves Todd County.  It followed a classy 1835 facility.  The current courthouse is on Washington at Weathers streets.  Kentucky State Highway 181 is one block to the west of the site.  In 2012 a Justice Center was built.  Tom Mimms Paine is the courthouse architect.  The structure has a small dome and columns.  Veteran memorials are at the old courthouse in the center of the town square.  The county was established on November 2, 1820 and named for Revolutionary War hero John Todd.  The county was taken from parts of Logan and Christian counties as the 67th county.  There was an 1837 courthouse in Elkton, the only county seat.  The county seat is named for local elk herds. 

The area of the county is 376 square miles.  It is 40 out of 120 in the state.  It ranks 89 out of 120 in population in the state.  It has a density of 32.6 persons per square mile making it 102 out of 120 in the state.  Todd County has 30.4% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 41 goes west to south from Christian County to Tennessee.  United States Highway 68 crosses the county east to west from Logan County to Christian County.  United States Highway 79 cuts the southeast corner from Logan County, east, to Tennessee, south.  The county is a tall rectangle.  Elkton is slightly south of center in the county.  Elkton is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 16.8% of the county population.  Bowling Green, Kentucky is east and Owensboro, Kentucky is north of the county. 

Todd County government consists of a sheriff, County Judge Executive, and 5 Magistrates.  One Circuit Court Judge and One District Court Judge serve Todd and Logan counties.  The county is in southern Kentucky on the Tennessee border.  The county center is 2.1 miles North-Northeast of Elkton.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Muhlenberg and Logan counties and Tennessee and Christian County.
