The Modern Romanesque red brick courthouse was erected in 2009.  It replaced 1895 and 1922 courthouses in Cadiz, the only county seat.  The facility is on Court and Main streets.  Kentucky State Highway 80 passes in front of the courthouse.  CMW, Inc., provided the courthouse concrete and steel designs.  A Justice Center is across the street.  The town theme is painted pig statues and the courthouse is also included.  Trigg County was established on November 2, 1820 from parts of Christian and Caldwell counties as the 68th county.  It is named for Revolutionary War hero Stephen Trigg.  Warrington was the first county seat until 1822 when Cadiz assumed the role.  Cadiz is named for Cadiz, Spain. 

The area of the county is 443 square miles.  It is 21 out of 120 in the state.  It ranks 78 out of 120 in population in the state.  It has a density of 31.7 persons per square mile making it 104 out of 120 in the state.  Trigg County has 18.1% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 24 crosses the northeast corner of the county from Caldwell County to Christian County, north to east.  United States Highway 68 goes east to west from Christian County to Marshall County.  The county is shaped like a plow.  Cadiz is in the northeast quarter of the county.  Cadiz is the county seat and the largest city since it is the only incorporated city.  It is 18.1% of the county population.  Paducah, Kentucky is northwest and Owensboro, Kentucky is northeast of the county. 

Trigg County government consists of a County Judge Executive, a sheriff, a clerk, an attorney, a treasurer, a coroner, and an appraiser (executive).  It has 7 Magistrates (legislative.)  Two Circuit Court Judges and One District Court Judge serve Trigg, Caldwell, Livingston, and Lyon counties and a court clerk serves Trigg County (judicial.) The county is on the Tennessee River and on the border with Tennessee.  The county center is 6.8 miles Southwest of Cadiz.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Caldwell and Christian counties and Tennessee and Calloway, Marshall, and Lyon counties.  This county is in the Clarksville Metropolitan Statistical Area.
