The 1792 white brick Georgian courthouse was recently augmented by a Justice Center.  It is on Liberty Street at Courthouse Square.  Maryland State Highway 213 is Liberty Street.  The courthouse was renovated in 1876.  J. Crawford Neilson was the architect.  A District Courthouse augments the county courthouse.  A new courthouse was built in 2019.  Veteran memorials are across the street.  The county is named for English Queen Anne.  The county seat is named for its geographical location.  Queenstown was the county seat until 1791 when Centreville took over.  Queen Anne’s County was the birthplace of 1 Maryland Governor, William Grason.  The county was formed on January 1, 1706 as the 12th county. 

Queen Anne’s County government consists of a manager, an administrator, and a sheriff (executive).  It has 5 Council Members (legislative.)  Eight Circuit Court Judges and Six District Court Judges serve Queen Anne’s, Caroline, Cecil, Kent, and Talbot counties and a court clerk and a county attorney serve Queen Anne’s County (judicial.) The county is in eastern Maryland.  Baltimore, Maryland is northwest and Washington, District of Columbia is west of the county.  The county center is 4.1 miles West-Southwest of Centreville.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Kent County and Delaware and Caroline, Talbot and Anne Arundel counties. 

The area of the county is 510 square miles.  It is 11 out of 24 in the state.  It ranks 18 out of 24 in population in the state.  It has a density of 97.8 persons per square mile making it 18 out of 24 in the state.  Queen Anne’s County has 14.4% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 50 comes from Anne Arundel County, west, and goes to Talbot County, south.  United States Highway 301 goes north to west in the county from Kent County to Anne Arundel County.  The county looks like a whale facing east.  Centreville is geographically near the center of the county.  Centreville is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 9.5% of the county population.  This county is in the Baltimore-Towson Metropolitan Statistical Area.
