A Tudor Revival look exists in the stone and concrete 1926 facility.  It is located on Main Street at Gordon Street.  United States Highway 10 is one block to the northwest of the courthouse.  Bloodgood Tuttle is the architect.  The building was enlarged in 1958 and again in 1979.  The courthouse features half timbers with the garden grounds and veteran memorials.  There was an 1856 courthouse earlier in Midland the only county seat.  Midland County was formed on March 2, 1831 from parts of Saginaw County and Native American Territory as the 32nd county.  The county and county seat names are geographical descriptions of its location in the southern peninsula of Michigan. 

Midland County government consists of a sheriff, an administrator, an attorney, a treasurer and a clerk (executive).  It has 7 Commissioners (legislative.)  Two Circuit Court Judges, Three District Court Judges, Two Probate Court Judges and court clerk serve Midland County (judicial.) The county is in the eastern part of the southern peninsula.  Lansing, Michigan is south and Detroit, Michigan is southeast of the county.  The county center is 6.2 miles Northwest of Midland.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Gladwin, Bay, Saginaw, Gratiot, Isabella, and Clare counties. 

The area of the county is 528 square miles.  It is 78 out of 83 in the state.  It ranks 24 out of 83 in population in the state.  It has a density of 158.1 persons per square mile making it 19 out of 83 in the state.  Midland County has 53.2% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 10 crosses the county east to west from Bay County to Isabella County.  The overall shape of the county is a rectangle with extensions on the northeast and southwest.  The City of Midland is on the eastern border of the county and extends into Bay County.  Midland is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 50.9% of the county population.  This county is in the Midland Micropolitan Statistical Area.
