The concrete Modern structure was built in 1972 on Michigan Street between Adams and Court streets.  Michigan State Highway 46 is six blocks to the southwest.  Wiger, Tincknell & Associates provided the designs.  Veteran memorials and a Bell Tower sit on the grounds.  An 1834 courthouse was the first courthouse then a classier 1888 courthouse preceded the current one.  The county was formed on September 10, 1822 from Oakland County as the 7^th county with Saginaw as the only county seat.  The county and county seat names are taken from the Native American tribe.  Saginaw County was the birthplace of 1 Michigan Governor, Wilber M. Brucker. 

Saginaw County government consists of a sheriff, an administrator, an attorney, a treasurer and a clerk (executive).  It has 11 Commissioners (legislative.)  Five Circuit Court Judges, Six District Court Judges, Three Probate Court Judges and court clerk serve Saginaw County (judicial.) Saginaw County is in the eastern part of the southern peninsula.  Flint, Michigan is directly southeast of the county.  The county center is in Saginaw 4.3 miles West-Southwest of the city center.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Bay, Tuscola, Genesee, Shiawassee, Gratiot, and Midland counties. 

The area of the county is 816 square miles.  It is 39 out of 83 in the state.  It ranks 11 out of 83 in population in the state.  It has a density of 233.0 persons per square mile making it 10 out of 83 in the state.  Saginaw County has 30.4% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 75 crosses the county north to south from Bay County to Genesee County.  United States Highway 23 is joined with Interstate Highway 75 from Bay to Genesee counties.  The county looks like a pistol.  The City of Saginaw is located in the northeast corner of the county.  Saginaw is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 23.3% of the county population.  The county and county seat are pronounced SAG-I-NAW.  This county is in the Saginaw-Saginaw Township North Metropolitan Statistical Area.
