A gray stucco Classical Revival built in 1882 is on Cherry Street between Bay and Laurel streets.  The courthouse is one blocks east of United States Highway 51 in the town.  The courthouse was remodeled in 1918 and 1966 and renovated in 2001.  An Annex was added in 1997.  The architect of the courthouse is unknown.  The grounds feature a veterans’ memorial and numerous trees.  The county was established on December 9, 1815 from Marion County as the 14th county.  Holmesville was the first county seat until 1875 when Magnolia became the seat.  The county namesake is explorer Zebulon Pike.  The county seat is named for local trees.  Pike County was the birthplace for 1 Mississippi Governors, Hugh L. White. 

The area of the county is 409 square miles.  It is 75 out of 82 in the state.  It ranks 19 out of 82 in population in the state.  It has a density of 98.6 persons per square mile making it 13 out of 82 in the state.  Pike County has 40.1% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 55 goes north to south through the county from Lincoln County to Louisiana.  United States Highway 51 parallels Interstate Highway 55 from Lincoln County to Louisiana.  United States Highway 98 crosses east to west from Walthall County to Amite County.  The county is a rectangle.  Magnolia is located in the southwest quarter of the county.  McComb is in the northwest quarter of the county.  Magnolia is the county seat and McComb is the largest city.  Magnolia is 4.7% of the county population while McComb is 30.8% of the county population. 

Pike County government consists of a sheriff and 5 Supervisors.  Two Chancery Court Judges serve Pike, Amite, Franklin, and Walthall counties, Two District Court Judges serve Pike, Lincoln, and Walthall counties, and One County Court Judge serves Pike County.  Pike County is on the southern border of the state.  Louisiana is across the border.  Jackson, Mississippi is north and New Orleans, Louisiana is south of the county.  The county center is 6.5 miles Northeast of Magnolia.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Lincoln and Walthall counties and Louisiana and Amite County.  The largest city is pronounced MAK-KOEM.  This county is in the McComb Micropolitan Statistical Area.
