The masonry and concrete Art Deco courthouse was built in 1940. It is situated at the intersection of Cherry and Grove streets. United States Highway 61 is three blocks to the west of the site. Havis and Havis are the architects. There was a classic 1858 courthouse previously also in Vicksburg, the only county seat. The county was organized on December 22, 1809 from Claiborne County as the 7th county. It is named for American Revolutionary war hero Joseph Warren. The county seat is named for Minister Newitt Vick.

Three Chancery Court Judges serve Warren, Humphreys, Issaquena, Sharkey, Sunflower, and Washington counties, Two District Court Judges serve Warren, Issaquena, and Sharkey counties, and One County Court Judge serves Warren County. This county is located on the western border of the state across from Louisiana. Jackson, Mississippi is east and Memphis, Tennessee is northeast of the county. The Mississippi River forms its western border. The county center is 7.1 miles Northeast of Vicksburg. The county is surrounded clockwise by Issaquena, Yazoo, Hinds, and Claiborne counties and Louisiana.
The area of the county is 587 square miles. It is 36 out of 82 in the state. It ranks 18 out of 82 in population in the state. It has a density of 76.2 persons per square mile making it 18 out of 82 in the state. Warren County has 48.2% of its population in its incorporated areas. Interstate Highway 20 travels east to west through the county from Hinds County to Louisiana. United States Highway 61 crosses north to south from Issaquena County to Claiborne County. United States Highway 80 enters joined with Interstate Highway 20 from Hinds County, splits and exits into Louisiana. The county is shaped like a comma. Vicksburg is located on the western border of the county. Vicksburg is the county seat and, as the only incorporated city, it is the largest city. It is 48.2% of the county population. This county is in the Vicksburg Micropolitan Statistical Area.
