The 1920 red brick and masonry Classical Revival building is on a square at Church Street, 2nd Street, Elm Street, and 2nd Avenue. United States Highway 65 Business passes one block to the west of the site. The building architect was Henry H. Hohenschild. There were 1860 and 1867 courthouses and a 2001 Justice Center. An elevator is in the middle of the building. The county was established on March 10, 1859 from parts of Greene, Taney, and Webster counties as the 113th county with Ozark as the only county seat. The county is named for American Revolutionary War hero William Christian. The county seat is named for the mountains. They also inspired the name for Ozark County.

One Circuit Court Judge serves Christian and Taney counties and Two County Court Judges and a court clerk serve Christian County (judicial.) Christian County is in the southwest part of the state. The county center is 3.2 miles Southeast of Ozark. The county is surrounded clockwise by Greene, Webster, Douglas, Taney, Stone, and Lawrence counties.

It has a density of 157.8 persons per square mile making it 13 out of 115 in the state. Christian County has 59.5% of its population in its incorporated areas. United States Highway 65 travels north to south in the county from Greene County to Taney County. United States Highway 160 enters from Greene County, north, and exits to Stone County, southwest. The county is shaped like the State of Oklahoma. Ozark is in the northern quarter of the county. Nixa is northwest of Ozark. Ozark is the county seat and Nixa is the largest city. Ozark is 24.0% of the county population while Nixa is 26.2% of the county population. The largest city if pronounced NIKS-A. This county is in the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area.
