The Modern masonry structure was constructed in 2004.  It is located on Missouri State Highway 52 about 1 mile northwest of the town.  It replaced a classier 1859 building.  Archetype Design Group provided the current courthouse designs.  The county was established on January 1, 1837 from parts of Cole and Pulaski counties as the 58th county.  Tuscumbia has always been the county seat.  The county is named for Governor John Miller.  The county seat is named for the Native American chief. 

Miller County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  Three Circuit Court Judges serve Miller, Camden, Laclede, Moniteau, and Morgan counties and One County Court Judge serves Miller County.  The county is in central Missouri.  The geographical center of Missouri is 20 miles southwest of Jefferson City in the county.  Kansas City, Missouri is northwest and Saint Louis, Missouri is east of the county.  The county center is 1.9 miles Southeast of Tuscumbia.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Cole, Osage, Maries, Pulaski, Camden, Morgan, and Moniteau counties. 

The area of the county is 592 square miles.  It is 58 out of 115 in the state.  It ranks 43 out of 115 in population in the state.  It has a density of 41.8 persons per square mile making it 44 out of 115 in the state.  Miller County has 33.7% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 54 crosses northeast to southwest in the county from Cole County to Camden County.  The county’s shape resembles an arrow pointing southeast.  Tuscumbia is located in the northwest quarter of the county.  Eldon is in the northwest corner of the county.  Tuscumbia is the county seat and Eldon is the largest city.  Tuscumbia is 0.8% of the county population while Eldon is 17.8% of the county population.  The county seat is pronounced TUS-KUM-BEE-A.
