The Modern dark brown brick courthouse was built in 1975.  It is on Fallon Street at Main Avenue.  Montana State Highway 7 is one block to the east.  Johnson/Graham Associates are the building designers.  A County Administrative building is attached to the courthouse.  Veteran memorials are on the grounds.  There was a 1910 courthouse earlier in Baker the only county seat.  The county was created on December 9, 1913 as the 35th county.  Fallon County is named for explorer Benjamin O’Fallon.  The county seat is named for railroad agent A. G. Baker. 

Fallon County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  Two District Court Judges serve Fallon, Carter, Custer, Garfield, Powder River, Rosebud, and Treasure counties.  The county is on the southeast border with North Dakota.  Billings, Montana is west of the county.  The county center is 7.9 miles West of Baker nearer Plevna.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Wibaux County and North Dakota and South Dakota and Carter, Custer, and Prairie counties. 

The area of the county is 1620 square miles.  It is 45 out of 56 in the state.  It ranks 42 out of 56 in population in the state.  It has a density of 1.9 persons per square mile making it 36 out of 56 in the state.  Fallon County has 64.8% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 12 travels east to west from North Dakota to Custer County.  The overall shape of the county looks like the number 9.  Baker is in the eastern quarter of the county.  Baker is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 59.0% of the county population.
