The masonry Streamlined Modern courthouse was built in 1938.  It is located on Main Street between 5th and 6th avenues.  Main Street is United States Highway 2 in the town.  A. V. McIver is the architect.  Glacier County was established on February 9, 1919 as the 45th county with Cut Bank as the only county seat.  The county is named for Glacier National Park.  The county seat is named for Cut Bank Creek and its local gorge. 

Glacier County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  One District Court Judge serves Glacier, Pondera, Teton, and Toole counties.  Glacier County is in northwest Montana on the border with Canada.  Great Falls, Montana is southeast and Missoula, Montana is southwest of the county.  The county center is 32.8 miles West of Cut Bank nearer Browning.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Canada and Toole, Pondera, and Flathead counties.  Glacier County looks like the State of Montana with its southeast corner cut away.  The Continental Divide forms its western border. 

The area of the county is 2995 square miles.  It is 17 out of 56 in the state.  It ranks 13 out of 56 in population in the state.  It has a density of 4.6 persons per square mile making it 19 out of 56 in the state.  Glacier County has 29.6% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 2 crosses the county east to west from Toole County to Flathead County.  United States Highway 89 originates at the Canadian border and travels southeast into Pondera County.  Cut Bank is located near the eastern border of the county.  Cut Bank is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 22.2% of the county population.
