The red brick Colonial Revival and Georgian Revival facility was erected in 1920.  The facility is on River Street at 3^rd Avenue.  Interstate Highway 90 passes three blocks south of the courthouse.  Whitehouse and Price are the building architects.  The courthouse features columns and a small tower.  An Addition has been added.  Mineral County was founded on May 27, 1914 as the 37^th county with Superior as the only county seat.  The county is named for the local mining.  The county seat is named for Superior, Wisconsin. 

Mineral County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  Three District Court Judges serve Mineral and Missoula counties.  The county is on the western border with Idaho.  Missoula, Montana is directly east of the county.  The county center is 6.6 miles Southwest of Superior.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Sanders and Missoula counties and Idaho.  Mineral County looks like a backward diagonal. 

The area of the county is 1220 square miles.  It is 50 out of 56 in the state.  It ranks 37 out of 56 in population in the state.  It has a density of 3.7 persons per square mile making it 23 out of 56 in the state.  Mineral County has 28.2% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 90 passes southeast to northwest from Missoula County to Idaho.  Superior is in the eastern third of the county.  Superior is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 18.3% of the county population.
