The masonry Modern building was constructed in 1939. There was an earlier courthouse in Culberson. The courthouse is at 2nd Avenue and Custer Street. United States Highway 2 is five blocks northwest of the location. The designer is Edwin G. Oness. Roosevelt County was formed on February 9, 1919 as the 47th county. The county is named for United States President Theodore Roosevelt. The county seat is named for Wolf Creek. Roosevelt County was the birthplace for 1 Montana Governor, Theodore Schwinden.
