A very Modern brown brick building built in 1973 replaced a wooden 1893 courthouse.  Valley County was created on March 2, 1893 as the 20th county with Glasgow as the only county seat.  The courthouse is on a square surrounded by East Court Street, 3rd Avenue, West Court Street, and 4th Avenue.  United States Highway 2 is four blocks northwest of the location.  E. F. Link & Associates are the architects.  An Annex augments the courthouse.  The county is named for its location in the valley of the Milk River.  The county seat is named for Glasgow, Scotland. 

Valley County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  One District Court Judge serves Valley, Blaine, and Phillips counties.  Valley County is on the northern border with Canada.  The Missouri River forms its southern border.  Great Falls, Montana is southwest and Billings, Montana is south of the county.  The county center is 8.4 miles Northeast of Glasgow.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Canada and Daniels, Roosevelt, McCone, Garfield, and Phillips counties. 

The area of the county is 4921 square miles.  It is 6 out of 56 in the state.  It ranks 28 out of 56 in population in the state.  It has a density of 1.5 persons per square mile making it 40 out of 56 in the state.  Valley County has 50.4% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 2 travels through the county east to west from Roosevelt County to Phillips County.  The county looks like a locomotive heading south.  Glasgow is located in the southern third of the county.  Glasgow is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 42.2% of the county population.
